Macoda Mattress Review

Awarded Australia’s best Mattress in a Box 2019 when it comes to comfort, the Macoda Mattress has likely made its way to the top of your wishlist for a new mattress this year.

The Macoda brand might be one of Australia’s newest mattress brands though they’ve kicked things off with a bang in their hybrid pocket spring and memory foam mattresses. If its support, plush comfort, cooling gel and overall great night’s sleep you’re looking for, this foam and spring mattress might be for you.

The mattress in this line is interchangeable too, so if you’re someone who likes to test and try beds out, the Macoda lets you do this from the comfort of your own home. From a 5/10 to a 6.5/10 on the firmness scale, the Macoda suits all sleeping types, as well as those who’d like to see their mattress sleep a little softer than most.

To cap things off before our review, the Macoda Mattress is also praised for being exceedingly high quality. The gel memory foam and innerpsrings are highlighted as being durable, responsive and show no signs of wear and tear in time – at least throughout preliminary testing.

With all of that out of the way, let’s take a look at the Macoda Mattress and why this customisable, comfortable mattress might be the best bed for you this year.

To start off, the Macoda Mattress is wrapped in a high-quality bamboo fabric, making it hypoallergenic by design. If you’re someone who often struggles with allergies or other issues such as sneezing or runny noses when you sleep, then this bed should remedy that for you.

Adding to this anti-allergen feature, there’s also a customisable foam layer setup here. With two layers of foam in different firmness levels, you can simply unzip your bamboo cover, swap the foam layers and test out which firmness level feels the best.

When it comes to environmental comfort, there’s a layer of gel memory foam here that makes sure your Macoda is well-ventilated and going to keep you cool as you sleep. This is good news in warmer climates, and for sleepers who often wake up sweating during the night.

Back to materials, not only are there memory foam layers in this bed, but there are also pocket spring and natural latex layers too. That said, you’ll be getting a great bounce out of your mattress, especially when compared to other all-foam beds.

From our outline above, it’s clear to see that a lot has gone into the Macoda Mattress, quite literally. There are four high-quality internal layers here, all working together to provide the best sleeping experience possible.

The first layer of natural latex ensures you’re getting the most comfort and added bounce. This is ideal for sleepers who don’t like to sink too far into their mattresses, and latex, as expected is the best companion to all beds as it’s the perfect blend between supportive and soft. You won’t see any sagging in the top latex layers here.

Below the latex, there is your gel-infused memory foam layer that contours to the body, and allows you the firmness options we talked about above. This foam layer also keeps the mattress from becoming too hot, with the gel beads absorbing and dispersing heat easily. The best part of this layer is the pressure relief and joint pain reduction, with all sleeper’s being able to rely on the memory foam to take the weight off their bodies.

Third, in the mattress’s core is the polyurethane support foam which is the foam that has been integrated to ensure there’s plenty of support when sleepers have sunken into the top two layers. This support foam will provide a majority of malleable support that keeps the spine in alignment. It’s adaptable, changes shape, and keeps you from experiencing any back pain when you wake up in the mornings. Anti-sagging properties are also found in this foam, keeping the latex and gel foam layers well supported for years to come.

Lastly, the 5-zone pocket springs make up the foundation or base of this bed. All of the springs are designed to work individually from one another, meaning you’re going to see even more comfort in these springs than in most other beds. The springs are more rigid than foam, keeping you supported, and being hollow, you’ll be able to rest assured your body temperature isn’t raised too high during your sleep.

Encasing all of these high-quality material layers is the washable bamboo cover we mentioned. With moisture-wicking properties, anti-bacterial features and featuring great breathability, you’ll not have to worry about allergies being spiked, or your mattress slowly filling up with bacteria or mould-causing moisture.

The Macoda Sleeping Experience

Although the Macoda stands out on its own for all sleepers, there are a few little features or additions to note. For back sleepers, side sleepers and stomach sleepers, you’ll be right at home on this breathable bed.

Heat Retention and Dispersion

With the cooling gel foam, all sleepers will be glad to know that there’s no chance that the Macoda will get too warm as they sleep, even if you’re in a warmer climate.

The cooling gel foam that sits right below the top latex top layer is ideally placed to vacuum body heat out of the bed and through the pocket springs below. This means that you’re able to stay in one sleeping position for a whole lot longer, before you feel a little too warm and have to move.

Initial Comfort and Feel

One thing to note with the Macoda is that there’s a fantastic sinking feeling here that is unbeatable from many standpoints. As there are three non-spring layers coming together, with one being latex, there’s a level of sinkage here that is optimal for relieving pressure points but also providing a great bounce and responsiveness.

The edge support on the Macoda is also fantastic thanks to the springs in the core, and the upper comfort layers, again, will ensure that no matter your sleeping position, you’ll have enough of upper sinkage to fall asleep without joint pain.

Partner Disturbance

When it comes to sleeping beside a partner, we have some good news – the separated pocket springs work in harmony with the foam layers to isolate movement and keep the bed as still as possible during the night. The Macoda may be the perfect mattress for those with partners who get up too often during the night or love to roll and toss as they sleep.

Having a customisable firmness level, from between 5 and 6.5 out of 10, the Macoda perfectly falls between soft and medium territory.

What this means is that side sleepers will love this mattress more than most, though back sleepers with a love for medium-firm beds will also be happy on the Macoda too.

It’s good to keep in mind that the upper latex offers a firmer feel by default, so although the inner foam layers may come off a little too soft, the latex’s firmness ensures the most comfy sleep.

A Few Things to Note

Thickness and Weight

A rather unexpected detail with the Macoda is its weight and thickness. From all of the layers inside, it is a little heavier and thicker than other beds in this class coming in at around 29cm in thickness.

This thickness, however, shouldn’t be too much of an issue unless you have a restrictive bed frame. It’s also good to keep in mind that generally thicker beds do last a lot longer than their thinner counterparts, so Macoda may just be a decade-laster.

When it comes to weight, you can expect a queen mattress to come in at around 50kg and a king single at 36kg. The largest king size will weigh 59kg for those going up to those dimensions.

Material Quality

As expected, the materials in this mattress are all outstanding and reviewers online have made it known that they’re in love with the high-end feel and experience on the mattress.

Keep in mind that the thickness of all the layers in this mattress are testament to the quality, and the weight also gives an insight into the density and quality too. With a heavier weight and so many layers, including higher-end latex, you can rest assured that Macoda has done all they can to give you a mattress that’s going to last you for decades to come.

Macoda’s 10-year warranty also stands by the quality materials in this bed.

The Macoda bed comes with a risk-free 100-night trial to give you a chance to test out this bed in a box before you commit to presumably a decade with it.

This is great news for customers who aren’t too sure about the multi-foam design, or the firmness.

The return process is incredibly simple too, so you’re able to hand back your Macoda for free without an issue and switch to another bed, all with a full refund.

Another great perk of the Macoda is free delivery. Whether you’re in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or anywhere else in Australia, you’ll be able to get your Macoda bed delivered to you free of charge.

When it comes to reliability, it’s good to note that the Macoda mattress comes with a great 10-year warranty which makes sure you can rely on your Macoda to provide a great night’s sleep for years to come.

As you can see from our review above, Macoda has taken a lot into consideration when engineering a mattress for comfort and long-term use.

With an array of materials, multi-layer foam cores for comfort and interchangeable layers, it’s the perfect mattress for those who like to take control of their beds comfort levels.

In all, the Macoda’s great quality and comfort-focused design will ensure you’re getting the best, pain-free sleep for years to come; though the soft firmness level maybe a little too soft for tummy and back sleepers.
