Best Waterproof Mattress Protector for Bedwetting

We all know how tricky potty training can be, and with young ones often wetting the bed it’s always a good idea to invest in a quality waterproof mattress protector that’s ideal for bedwetting. To add, if you’re someone with pets who sometimes wet the bed, or are dealing with incontinence problems, then we have some great suggestions for your below too.

No one wants to be stuck dealing with wet sheets and a soiled mattress, so the mattress protectors we’ve selected below are waterproof, of course, but also machine washable, reliable and durable.

LINENSPA Waterproof Sheet Protector

Up first is arguably the market leader when it comes to breathable, easy-to-remove and easily cleanable mattress protector. The LINENSPA Waterproof Sheet Protector is simple to quickly pull off the bed in the middle of the night should an accident occur, and the blended fabrics also make it a powerful companion when it comes to absorbing accidents or spills.

The sheet protector is split into multiple layers, with a comfortable cotton blend sitting on top, an absorbent centre and a non-slip back. These three materials mean that you’re not giving up comfort with this protector, and you’re also getting the best absorbency in the market.

To add, the mattress protector is machine washable and dryer friendly, so you’ll be able to quickly wash and dry the mattress cover in little to no time at all.

Utopia Premium Zippered Waterproof Mattress Encasement

Those looking for a full-coverage waterproof protector should look no further than Utopia’s  Premium Zippered Waterproof Mattress protector. With a full-cover design, this mattress protector is also one of the best mattress protectors when it comes to keeping out dust mites, insects, bed bugs as well as being waterproof. You’ll be keeping your mattress entirely free from all nasties when you’re using this mattress pad, which is ideal if you’re looking to keep a young child’s mattress safe.

The cover is available in multiple sizes, from twin through to California King, making it ideal for more than just small kid’s beds.

LUCID Premium Rayon from Bamboo Jersey Mattress Protector

One of the softest waterproof protectors on our list is the Premium Rayon from Bamboo Jersey. For waterproofing there’s not too much left to be desired as the there’s a jersey fabric that makes sure no liquids find their way into your mattress. Where the protector really stands out though is in its fabric tech, which lets it easily stretch and fit over mattresses without harsh tugging and pulling.

To add, this mattress topper is perfect for those who need a stretchy protector that can move and flex with memory foam beds. All too often mattress protectors stretch to their limits on memory foam and restrict the mattress’s movement, though the LUCID Premium and its waterproof membrane is more than flexible enough to move with any mattress material.

Allergen protection also makes an appearance here, as well as protection from dust mites.

Perks

Custom Materials for Comfort

Highly Stretchable

Easy to Take on and Off

Flexes with Memory Foam Beds

Zen Bamboo Mattress Protector

To a mattress protector that will be a good buy for younger kids, the Zen Bamboo offers a very soft feel below fitted sheets, and also offers a hypoallergenic material that prevents the build-up of bacteria and other allergens. Of course, fluids won’t be able to penetrate the protector, and neither will pet dander or any other nasties that could upset a child’s sensitive health.

The completely waterproof topper is also available in twin through California King sizes, making it an excellent option if adults would like to use the protector too.

For thicker mattresses up to 15 inches, the Zen Bamboo is a great fit as well, so for parents, or anyone in general, looking for a solution for a taller mattress, this product has you and your mattress well covered.

Ideal for Children’s Beds

MILLIARD Quilted, Waterproof Crib & Toddler Mattress Protector Pad

When it comes to toddlers and infants, toilet training is in the earliest of stages, so a waterproof mattress protector that can be routinely replaced at a night time is essential. The Milliard Quilted Waterproof protector pad is the ideal product for you, with a bamboo terry cloth, as opposed to cotton terry, means that there’s a non-toxic assurance. To add, the anti-mould and bed bug-resistant  material is also machine washable and dryable.

Parents have touted online that the protector keeps the mattress dry and is easy to whip off a crib and small child’s beds, making sure that late, accidental bedwetting nights aren’t too much of a hassle for you or your little one.

Priva Waterproof Vinyl Mattress Protector

If you’re in search of a waterproof protector that’s wipeable and not polyurethane, then the Vinyl Protector from Priva is your best bet. Although it is machine washable, you’re also able to quickly wipe down any minor messes that may have been made by pets, small children or just a simple drink spill.

Although perfectly fine for use on everyday beds, the Priva Waterproof Vinyl Mattress Protector may be your ultimate companion on beds at guest houses that aren’t used all too often. There’s an unofficial 300-wash limit on this protector, which means weekly or multiple weekly washes will start to age the protector, though for low-use holiday home beds, or day beds the protector is ideal.

Made from hypoallergenic materials and being friendly with bleach, the vinyl protector is ideal for those who’d prefer to wipe down or hand wash this protector. It might also come in handy on beds you’re using for dogs as an example.

Ideal for Holiday Home Use

SafeRest Premium Hypoallergenic Waterproof Mattress Protector

Another health care focused hypoallergenic protector, the SafeRest Premium Hypoallergenic protector is possibly one of the most water resistant on our list. With a cotton terry top, and a hyper-water-resistant backing, any liquids simply ball up into the cotton topper and don’t run or bleed across the topper like some variants allow.

Allergen protection and anti-bacterial properties also help sleepers with allergies and keep dust mites and other nasties away from the mattress. You’ll also be able to rely on this protector to keep your mattress fresher for longer, as dead skin cells and other impurities won’t make their way through.

Supporting up to 18-inch mattress thicknesses, this protector is best for keeping liquids from penetrating the sides of the mattress, so should there be a major accident or spillage from a beverage (or a prank) you won’t be suffering from a wet, mould-filled mattress.

Sizes from Twin through to California King are supported.

Choosing a Waterproof Mattress Topper

If you’re looking to go out on your own to find a mattress topper that we haven’t listed above, we have a few pointers to help you choose a protector that will keep your mattress dry and make nighttime accidents a little easier to take care of.

It’s always a good idea to invest in a waterproof topper regardless of your chances of an accident; it’s just simply easier to keep your mattress clean and to reduce bacteria build-up.

Here are a few of our quick tips for choosing a mattress protector.

Select Natural Materials

Aside from being a little healthier to sleep on, natural materials like cotton or bamboo, for example, can be more comfortable to sleep with. You’re less likely to hear major crinkling and crackles from a natural topper, and these noises might even be a deal-breaker for some.

On top of this, bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic in most cases, so there’s an added health benefit here for younger children or those who are allergy-prone.

Consider Ease of Removal

There’s nothing worse than being woken up in the early hours of the morning to a wet bed, or a child’s soiled mattress protector, so do your best to soften the blow. Consider looking at reviews of protectors and find a product that’s exceptionally easy to whip off the bed and chuck into the washer. You don’t want to be stuck fighting with tight elastic or a membrane that ‘adheres’ itself to the top of the mattress when you’re doing your best to pull it off.

Always be on the lookout for protectors that tout their ability to be taken off and easily put back on. Often these types have smooth plastic backs, as opposed to textured grippy ones.

Beware the Crinkle

As we mentioned above, crinkle sounds are more apparent in waterproof protectors than other types of protectors, so keep an eye out for reviews. Thick plastic protectors are going to make some rather loud sounds with every move you make, so unless you’re fine with this, we suggest looking for a product that’s designed to be thin, or features a topper membrane that dulls the sound as you toss and turn during the night.

A lot of the time, the material choice dictates the sounds made, so stray from plastics and certain types of vinyl if you can, as these have a tendency to sound like crinkly packaging for long periods of time before they’re truly worn in.

Washability

One final major point we have to make is washability. Almost all modern waterproof mattress toppers have some support for the washing machine, though, with textured or proprietary cotton tops, the cleanliness is up for debate. Do your research and look for products that are known (or designed) to come completely clean after every wash. The last thing you want is a topper that slowly gets more and more yellow or starts to smell even after a solid wash.

In line with this, it’s sometimes best to go for vinyl options if you’re looking to hand wash your mattress protector.
